Representatives of the 33 countries that make up the Community of Latin American and Caribbean Nations (CELAC) meet Thursday in Argentina, which will host the Unity in Diversity Symposium.
Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero, from Palazzo San Martin, will preside over the opening of the 35th meeting of national coordinators of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, according to a statement issued by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Vice President Rosario Murillo announced that Nicaragua will participate in the meeting, who indicated that the Central American country would be represented by Nicaragua’s ambassador to Argentina, Carlos Médens.
The PL also declared, that “we will discuss the core issues of our continental agenda in the context of the priorities of our peoples” and mentioned the fight against poverty and climate change, among others.
On the other hand, the Argentine coordinator, Gustavo Martinez, will present a report on the activities carried out by the interim presidency of that organization this year.
The day at the Kirchner Cultural Center (CCK) will conclude with a seminar with distinguished attendance of leaders, academic experts and personalities from our region: Celac CAF- Development Bank of Latin America, «Latin America and the Caribbean, The Future of Integration: Unity in Diversity».
The symposium seeks to create a space for high-level discussion on current and future opportunities and integration challenges, and the impact of the current global scenario on the development model of the region.
According to Del Sur’s Agenda, three groups of committees will be developed, among them Latin America and the Caribbean – Diversities and Consensus on Integration; Economic and political integration in an international system in crisis and the role of multilateral organizations, civil society and academia in integration. In conclusion, there will be a dialogue among leaders on the future of integration in Latin America and the Caribbean, which will be chaired by President Alberto Fernandez.
Argentina also seeks to strengthen existing regional capabilities in space matters and to support the development and operation of the Latin American and Caribbean Space Agency (ALCE); Deepening educational integration and exchange of experiences and good practices in the fight against corruption; Develop and strengthen public policies, programs and concrete actions in the areas of food and nutrition, food security, sovereignty, combating poverty and hunger, and promoting the strengthening of regional interdependence.
