Rafa Nadal announced on Wednesday that he will not participate in the US Open, which will be held in New York from August 26 to September 8.
“I have decided not to compete this year at the US Open, a place where I have incredible memories,” the Spanish tennis player wrote on social network X.
“I will miss those special night sessions in New York at Arthur Ashe Stadium, but I don’t think I could have given 100% this time. Thanks to all my fans in the US in particular, I will miss you and I will see you again (…). The next event will be the Laver Cup in Berlin.”
Nadal, who recently competed in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in singles and doubles with compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, entered July 16 with a protected ranking in the US Open, a “fantastic” one he has won on four occasions.
But his entry did not automatically mean that he would play – as it finally happened – since his schedule this year was divided into tournament after tournament and depended above all on his feelings and physical condition in each competition.
This is the second year in a row that Nadal has not attended the US Open. His last participation was in 2022, where he lost in the round of 16 to American Frances Tiafoe.
