SANTIAGO DE CHILE, SEPTEMBER 2 (RHC) Electoral silence began Friday in Chile after the campaigning of supporters and opponents of the new constitutional proposal, which will be submitted to a referendum next Sunday, ended.
More than 15 million Chileans were called to the polls on September 4 to vote to approve or reject the Magna Carta project, which seeks to replace the project in place since the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship (1973-1990).
The day before, the leadership of the campaign in favor of the constitutional text had gathered hundreds of thousands of people on the emblematic Alameda Street in a work that involved such notable artists as Ana Tejo, Los Vázquez, Francesca Valenzuela, Elapo, Tomo Como Re, and Santa Fe. , Nano Stern, among others.
Meanwhile, the disapproval order focused about 400 followers at the Pablo Neruda Coliseum in Metropolitan Park, located on San Cristobal Hill.
From Friday, any kind of demonstrations, caravans or election propaganda to allow citizens to consider voting is prohibited.
A change in the Basic Law was one of the demands of the 2019 social outbreak, when citizens demanded structural transformations in the country.
After a year’s work, the Constitutional Conference prepared a draft that in its final draft contained 11 chapters referring to fundamental rights, nature and the environment, democratic participation, good governance, executive and legislative power, and the justice system, among others.
