GENEVA, March 23 (RHC) The Secretary-General of the Confederation of Cuban Women, Teresa Amarel, endorsed on Wednesday in Geneva our country’s commitment to gender equality in Geneva to UN Women Executive Director Sima Bauhaus.

During Wednesday’s meeting, Amarelle presented several actions that have been touted in the Caribbean country to advance the empowerment of women and girls.

Likewise, he spoke about the challenges they face and the support provided by Cuban institutions on these issues.

The meeting took place within the framework of the sixty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), which takes place from 14 to 25 March at the United Nations.

During this week and the previous week, Amarel held meetings with senior officials from various countries, such as Argentina’s Minister of Women, Gender and Diversity, Elizabeth Gomez.

He also met with Iranian Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, Ansieh Khazali, and expressed gratitude for the help the Persian nation provided to the island in producing vaccines against COVID-19.

In addition, he held a meeting with the Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities of South Africa, Maite Nkwana-Mashabane, and highlighted the support he is receiving from this country to demand an end to the US embargo against Cuba.

Similarly, the President of the Federation of Cuban Women had a fruitful exchange with the Mexican Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, Martha Delgado Trujillo.

The President of the Pakistan Women’s Federation also met with the Chairperson of the Pakistan Women’s Committee, Khawar Mumtaz. Likewise, he spoke with the Minister of State for Equality and Integration of East Timor, José da Fonseca Monteiro.

Amarel leads the Cuban delegation to the sixty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women, which is held under the theme: “Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls in the context of climate change policies and programmes, environment and disaster risk reduction”.
