The head of state visited Angola, Mozambique and South Africa. In his capacity as interim chair of the Group of 77 plus China, he participated in the 15th BRICS Summit, in the segment on the BRICS Plus Dialogue.
On this occasion, Diaz-Canel pointed out that the real transformation of the current international financial architecture, which he described as deeply unfair, outdated and dysfunctional, is a historic claim of both the Group of 77 and BRICS.
He added, “We firmly believe in the power of unity in diversity, and that the time has come to act unifiedly in defense of historical claims that, because they were not addressed in a timely manner, have multiplied the problems our nations face today.”
In the course of the event, the Cuban president held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, with whom he reaffirmed the excellent state of relations between the two countries.
As part of his tour to the African continent, the Cuban president held official talks with his Angolan counterpart, Joao Lourenco, and from Mozambique, Felipe Jacinto Nyusi, with whom he highlighted the historical relations between countries and stressed the desire to strengthen them.
During his stay in Angola, Diaz-Canel met representatives of the Solidarity Movement with Al Jazeera, staff from the diplomatic headquarters and Cubans residing in the African country.
He also attended a solemn session called by the National Assembly for the occasion, and visited the monument to Agostinho Neto, where he paid tribute to the first Angolan president.
In addition, agreements were signed in areas such as the regulation of medicines, medical equipment, tourism and the linkage between the Mariel and Luanda Bengo Special Development Zones.
Meanwhile, in Mozambique, the President of the largest of the Antilles was briefed on the work of more than 360 Cuban professionals who serve in this country, mainly in the health sector.
He was received in the Assembly of the Republic, where he expressed his desire to strengthen relations between the parliaments of the two countries and thanked the Mozambican legislature for accompanying the global appeal to lift the economic blockade imposed by the United States on the island.
In a message on his X account, formerly known as Twitter, the President thanked expressions of solidarity and stated that he was bidding farewell to the African nation with a commitment to remain united by the fraternity bequeathed by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.
