Portugal, France and the United Kingdom were the main tourist destinations for Galicion in November, after some 158,010 nationals visited abroad last month, according to experimental statistics released Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) that measure tourism from mobile phones.
Specifically, about 120,333 Galicians visited Portugal in November, up 15% from the same month in 2021. France was the second “favorite” destination, but far behind the neighboring country, with a population of 9,648 people, down 29 percent. 3%. The UK came in third, with 4,942 visitors, an increase of 153%. Italy, Germany and the United States follow the list.
By province, it was the people of Pontevedra who visited abroad the most, with nearly 100,000 tourists, in most cases, Portugal. A Coruña (31,382 tourists), Ourense (21,140) and Lugo (6,183) recorded fewer flights.
The National Institute of Statistics also published this Thursday its national domestic tourism statistic, which shows that approximately 715,180 Galicians have chosen to do tourism within Spain’s borders.
Of these, more than half (443,210) resided in Galicia, while Madrid (76,063) and Castilla e León (54,713) were the most chosen destinations outside of the community.
In addition, the Galician provinces received 679,704 tourists from all over Spain in November, of which 443,210 were from other areas of the community. Madrid (69,833), Castilla y Leon (36,584) and Asturias (32,661) are the main places of residence for tourists coming to Galicia.
