LIMA, March 23 (EFE) – Peruvian Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi will travel to the Dominican Republic from March 24-25 to take part in the Ibero-American Summit to be held in the Caribbean nation’s capital, official sources in Santo Domingo reported Thursday.

In a statement, the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Gervasi will attend the meeting of Ibero-American Foreign Ministers and the 28th Summit of Ibero-American Heads of State and Government, the first in person since the outbreak of the Covid pandemic. -19.

At the summit, the ministry added, Peru will promote “a proactive regional cooperation agenda that produces concrete initiatives and strengthens people-centered Ibero-America.”

She pointed out that “the chancellor will hold meetings with the highest authorities in the countries of the region and representatives of international organizations,” after noting that Peru is a founding member of the Ibero-American Congress, and since 2019, it has become the headquarters of the Andean Subregional Office of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (Segib).

The forum is expected to be attended by at least fourteen heads of state or government from the 22 participating countries, including the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro. from Chile, Gabriel Boric; from Uruguay Luis Lacalle Poe; And from Argentina, Alberto Fernandez.

The meeting will be attended by King Felipe VI of Spain and Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez.

Among the confirmed absences is the absence of Brazilian Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, Mexican Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Salvadoran Najib Bukele.

The high-level meeting is being organized in Santo Domingo under the theme “Together for a Just and Sustainable Ibero-America”, with main topics including discussion of food security, the environment, digital rights and the new financial architecture.
