OEI will promote reading at the Spanish Language Conference

This came in a press release, which highlighted its participation in the 9th International Congress of the Spanish Language (CILE), which is scheduled to be held from March 27 to 30 in the city of Cadiz, Andalusia.

The OEI will take advantage of the parallel cultural programs that will take place during the conclave to symbolically take to the streets of the city with its initiative that seeks to promote new spaces and reading habits among passers-by.

Likewise, he will appreciate the important contribution made by the Cadiz poets (from Cadiz) to the history of letters in the Spanish language.

With the support of the Cádiz City Council, in different parts of the city, such as streets, squares and public transport, people will be able to read and enjoy, through postcards and QR codes, the poetic creations of authors born there, such as Mercedes Escolano, Miguel Ángel García Arguez, Nieves Vazquez Rocío , María Alcantarilla, Fernando Quinones or Jose Ramon Ripoll.

“Reading in Motion”, a campaign developed by the Iberlectura Program under the coordination of the OEI in Argentina, was already present at the previous edition of this conference in the Argentine city of Córdoba.

Traditional music will be added to the tribute to the language spoken by nearly 600 million people in the world, with the presentation of the Madrid Ibero-American Choir, conducted by Maestro Raúl Barrio.

In addition, during the event there will be a concert with the University of Cádiz Choir, where works of popular folklore common in the Spanish-speaking world will be presented.

During this event, songs will be presented with lyrics by important writers in Spanish such as Rafael Alberti, Gabriela Mistral, Antonio Machado, Miguel Hernandez, Mario Benedetti and others.

The International Congress of the Spanish Language is the most important forum for reflection on this language and takes place every three years. It is organized by the Cervantes Institute and the Royal Spanish Academy, together with the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language and the country that hosts it. Welcomes.
