National Popular Consultation in Venezuela, the People Rule – Radio Rebelde



Here the people rule! Under this principle, Venezuelan men and women participated in the Second National Popular Consultation on Sunday, August 25, a day that became a true democratic celebration of joy and hope.

In the communities, by voting, the residents chose the projects they wanted to promote in their places of residence, with a budget that would be delivered directly by the central government to the localities, and would be implemented with the approval of the residents themselves.

In this process, a total of 4,505 community circles, comprising parishes, municipalities, townships and municipal councils, were introduced in the form of community government that reaches the roots of the people.

To this end, during the neighborhood meetings more than 32 thousand proposals were collected throughout the Venezuelan territory, and eleven thousand projects were nominated, very different from the improvement of public lighting, the repair of roads, transportation, the implementation of recreational units, the renovation of buildings. health or educational institutions, to cultural and sports projects in a wide range of requests everywhere.

It is a true exercise of citizen participation, as many voters have confirmed to the Cuban press corps accredited in this country.

“Venezuela shows that it is a democratic country, where the state consults the people on any decision, and we develop our lives in peace and quiet, without foreign interference. “This government allows the people to make their decisions, and these people decided on July 28 that Nicolás Maduro would continue as president of the country, following the legacy of Chavez, this is sovereignty.” They expressed.

Carmen Melendez, Mayor of Caracas, made statements to the media after exercising her right to vote at the “Francisca Luisa Sublette” Center in the “Simon Bolivar” Municipal District of the Ciudad Fuerte Tiuna Municipality in the Capital Region.

In his speech, he stressed the importance of this historic moment for the country and stressed in this regard: “It is a pioneering direct democracy, here the people rule, and this is respectable, we have maintained this concept during these years of the Bolivarian Revolution, it is an electoral celebration of our people.”

During several interventions, President Nicolás Maduro pointed out that collective government is, in essence, the true meaning of democracy, and indicated that in addition to the approved projects, the government will finance other projects of a productive nature, which will total about 9 thousand in the country.

Angel Prado, Minister of Communities and Social Movements, also highlighted the importance of these elections, noting that Venezuela has held more than thirty elections in the last 25 years with the Bolivarian government in power.

“It is the people, the neighborhood people, in our fields who need us to move forward in solving problems, that seeks the good life in communities, the decent life that we all deserve.” He confirmed.

After voting at the polling station, Jorge Arreaza, vice president of Communes and Social Movements of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, said the country had given a lesson to the world.

“Let us remember that 26 days ago we had presidential elections, and now we have elections in another great power, from the presidency of the republic to the municipal government, this is our democracy, we have a people who decide their future in councils and elections.”
