Leon, Guanajuato.- There is no date yet for what could be the last time Michy “Matador” Muñoz will step into the ring as a boxer; Leones has a fight pending in the UK, which did not happen due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the invitation of British boxing organisation Bare Knuckle Boxing, “El Matador” Muñoz had a fight in the UK against Welshman Perry Jones scheduled for September, a fight that was postponed due to the coronavirus emergency, and this invitation remains uncertain due to the new outbreak of infection in England.
“I am very informed about what is happening in the United Kingdom, at the moment I have not sent a message, I have not asked for information because the battle is slowing down, I hope the situation (the pandemic) improves, we do not know,” he added. If this calms down in two months or more, Michi Muñoz commented to El Sol de León: “I am already close to retirement, but I am waiting for how long they will give me a date.”
Bare Knuckle Boxing is a British promotion that organizes boxing matches, but with the difference that the boxers face each other without gloves.Only the hands are bandaged, which makes these fights even more dangerous.
With over 15 years of his career under his belt, the 39-year-old knows that facing one last fight depends on his physical condition as old injuries start to take their toll.
“I will see if I am fit, if we feel that the body is not responding to us to train and prepare, then one decides that we have reached this point, my right elbow is a little injured, a finger on my left hand also these are the things that one hates.” added Muñoz Zavala.
As a professional, “Matador” Muñoz has collected 41 fights; with 28 wins, 19 of which were by knockout, plus 12 defeats and one draw. His career has taken him to the United States, Canada, Jamaica and Poland.
His last fight was last October in San Carlos, Sonora, and his opponent was Guatemalan Lester Martinez, a competitor who knocked out Michy Muñoz in the fifth round.
