The friendly match will be held next October at the Guadalajara stadium, home of the next World Cup.
GUADALAJARA, Jalisco – Mexico will face the United States on Oct. 15 at the Chivas Arena in Guadalajara, home of the upcoming World Cup.
The friendly match was announced on Monday at a press conference attended by Enrique Alfaro, governor of Jalisco; Amaury Vergara, president of Chivas; Ivar Sisniega, CEO of the Mexican Football Federation; and Javier Aguirre, coach of the Mexican national team.
With this, and after a joint effort between the authorities and the leaders of the FMF, after 14 years, the tricolor team will return to the state of Jalisco, remembering that in September 2010 it played a friendly match against the Ecuadorian team.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the national team’s friendly match against the United States, which will be held on the FIFA schedule in October, will represent a test for Guadalajara, one of Mexico’s three stadiums in next season’s World Cup.
“This is our home too,” declared FIFA President Ivar Sisniega, highlighting the importance of facing the United States, a high-profile opponent that will help boost the new tricolor process.
For his part, Javier Aguirre, the national team’s technical director, stressed the pride that the tricolor team is experiencing in our country once again, as well as the importance of playing against a competitor like the United States.
“We have a great illusion that we are at home; Guadalajara is at home,” said Vasco Aguirre, who highlighted the efforts made by Mexican authorities and leaders of the Mexican Football Federation to hold the match on national soil.
