Mark DeRosa will lead the United States at the 2023 World Baseball Classic

Sports Desk, Aug. 19. It was announced Friday that former Major League Baseball player Mark DeRosa has been appointed as the manager of the United States team for the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

DeRosa’s appointment has been announced by USA Baseball and Team USA General Manager Tony Riggins.

Following the announcement, DeRosa said he was honored to lead his country at the Nations Championship, a commitment he described as one of the most important things in his career in the sport.

“What an honor. I feel completely proud. I will do everything in my power to win. This is one of the most important moments of my life in baseball,” said the new Stars and Stripes captain.

In his football career, DeRosa was part of 16 major league seasons, wearing the jackets of the Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians (now Guardians), St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, Washington Nationals and San Francisco Giants.

During this round, DeRosa, who was distinguished by his versatility in playing different defensive positions, hit 268, with 100 home points and 494 RBI.

DeRosa, who was part of the US team at the 2009 World Classic as a player, will have the responsibility of retaining the champion title the Americans won at the last edition of the tournament held in 2017.

For the tournament, which will take place in March next year, the United States is part of Group C, along with teams from Mexico, Colombia and Canada.

DeRosa has already had confirmation from co-stars Mike Trout, of the Los Angeles Angels, who has been named captain of the team; Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies; Pete Alonso, New York Mets; Nolan Arenado, of St. Louis Cardinals; J.T.
