The Faculty of Sport Sciences of the University of Granada will honor Manolo Martin on Friday. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of INEF in Granada, from the Center for Olympic Studies, they want to glorify the values that pass from sport and pass them on to society. For this reason, during this 40th anniversary, month after month, a plaque is unveiled in the Plaza del Olimpismo that refers to an athlete associated with one of the great values of the sport, although the value in question will not be known until that day.
This time it is Manolo Martin’s turn, like other athletes who have also received this recognition, such as María José Renda or José Manuel Ruiz. Manolo Martín had a passion for football, since a little desire for competition was inherent in him, which did not allow him to stand out in that sport, but he did in bocía, a paralympic sport that is mostly practiced by athletes with cerebral palsy.
In this sport he fulfilled his aspirations on a competitive level. Three participations in the Paralympic Games, Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio de Janeiro 2016, she has been on the podium twice to win the bronze medal. He also has many runners-up in the world and Europe on his record.
The Portuguese man also wanted to remember everyone who was next to him during his sports career, without forgetting his family and friends: “Granada Football Club, Aspas Granada Sports Club, Aspas Granada, or the Portuguese City Council are institutions that my life has helped me a lot in achieving my goals, and I believe that Without her, I would never have been able to achieve all that I have achieved.”
“I would also like to thank the Faculty of Sport Sciences and Pilar Martos, Director of the Center for Olympic Studies, for remembering me and a minority sport like Bocchia. I can’t wait for Friday to arrive and discover my board. It is an honor and a privilege to attend this event, being in the Plaza del Olimpismo is a matter of pride” Martin said. The event will take place at 1:30 pm in the Plaza del Olimpismo, in the School of Sport Sciences.
