Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro made a phone call on Sunday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to express his support for the “terrible situation” in the Gaza Strip, and ordered the sending of 30 tons of humanitarian aid.
A statement issued by the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry said that Maduro and Abbas addressed “the terrible situation in the Gaza Strip, after indiscriminate attacks on the civilian population by Israel.”
During the call, Maduro reaffirmed Venezuela’s “unconditional support for the Palestinian cause and its authority” and offered 30 tons of humanitarian aid that will be sent in the coming days within the framework of the plan for “direct and continuous support for the Palestinian people.”
The leaders agreed to “demand an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of a humanitarian channel to assist the population, as well as the re-establishment of international legitimacy.”
Likewise, they urge the international community and the United Nations to “strengthen and courageously assume the role of guarantor” of this legitimacy as the “only” way to achieve peace.

The Gaza Strip, where more than 2.3 million people live, has witnessed daily bombings launched by Israel since the attack launched by the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas on Jewish lands on October 7.
The bombings have so far killed 2,670 people, including more than 700 children, and displaced one million people, according to local authorities.
Israel is mobilizing its forces in front of the Gaza Strip with the aim of invading the Palestinian Strip.
Since Friday, the Israeli army has urged residents of northern Gaza to leave to the south in the face of a possible incursion into the strip, around which tens of thousands of soldiers are stationed.
Hebrew military spokesmen said that the forces were waiting for the order to take measures to achieve the goal of destroying Hamas, which has ruled Gaza since 2007.
