Liverpool asked to sign one player in the January transfer window
Liverpool should only try to sign one player in the January transfer window – Kaleido Coulibaly.
This is what Reds legend John Barnes thinks.
Barnes believes Jurgen Klopp’s side should focus on striking a deal with the highly rated Napoli midfielder.
He said:
“If Coulibaly comes, he is a player who could play alongside Van Dyck when he returns.
“So it would be easy to convince Coulibaly to join Liverpool, unlike some of the other big players because he is a person who if he comes he will go straight to the first team and play every match.
“Aside from Coulibaly, I don’t think there is anyone looking to Liverpool in January.
“If Liverpool were unable to get anyone to improve the first team, why did they sign a new player?
“ January is not always the best time to buy because all the big players who want to join your team will be in the Champions League, so it can be difficult to convince them to come if they are not playing every week.
“If Liverpool is desperate and needs someone, they will get them in.
“But I don’t think Jurgen Klopp is particularly fond of buying in January, the situation clearly determines what will happen in January if they are in the lead and have not conceded a lot of goals then they probably don’t need to do that.
“In January you can spend a lot of money and not necessarily improve the team.
Can Liverpool compete without extras?
“The other teams will have players who will be injured, not just Liverpool players. If only Liverpool players and not Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham players are injured, that will be a factor in the title race. I don’t think Liverpool will take a stronger blow than anyone else.”
