Lebanon provided 190,000 doses of cholera vaccine

At the end of the first week of the national plan, the results showed that half of the eateries are Lebanese, followed by Syrian and Palestinian refugees and residents of other nationalities, most of whom are between the ages of five and fourteen.

The head of the sector in the interim government, Firas Al-Abyad, said, in a press conference, that 250 field teams, consisting of 945 health and administrative workers, cover more than six regions in the north of the country at one time to serve 53 cities and 45 thousand homes.

The Health Authority reaffirmed that the pandemic vaccination strategy will continue in the coming weeks to distribute a total of 600,000 doses received with the aim of reaching more than 70 percent of the population.

Al-Abyadh explained that the Ministry of Public Health, in coordination with the World Health Organization, has submitted a request to receive another number of doses, totaling nearly one and a half million, to start the second phase of the campaign.

The director confirmed that the cholera vaccine is safe, and that the number of beneficiaries in the world, according to the World Health Organization, exceeds 100 million people.

In this regard, the minister was keen to monitor possible side effects, and pointed out that in some areas, people and neighbors justify their unwillingness to get vaccinated.

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health is facing a new outbreak of the disease for the first time since 1993 and woke up today with nearly four thousand suspected cases, 573 confirmed cases and 20 deaths.
