Lam’s visit to Laos is a reflection of a special, loyal and unique relationship.

The trip, the new president’s first overseas trip since taking office on May 22, also underscores Vietnam’s determination to work with the neighbouring country to lift bilateral relations to a new level, said Hanoi’s ambassador to Vientiane, Nguyen Ba Hong.

As announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here, Tu Lam will pay state visits to Laos and Cambodia from July 11 to 13, in response to invitations from General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and Cambodian King Norodom.

Regarding staying in Vientiane from July 11 to 12, the Vietnamese diplomat stressed that it will be at a time when the two countries are implementing their plans for social and economic development and bilateral relations are growing strongly with the effective implementation of joint declarations and cooperation agreements.

The visit will provide an opportunity for President Lam and his counterpart Sisoulith, as well as other Lao leaders, to review and evaluate the cooperative relations between the two parties and the two countries, Ba Hong told VNA.

He added that the dignitaries will discuss and agree on major guidelines, policies and measures to promote comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in a deep and effective direction, and exchange views on the global and regional situation.

In this sense, the Vietnamese Ambassador announced that during the visit, the two sides will sign a series of important cooperation agreements.

In Ba Hong’s view, in order to continue to maintain and enhance the special relations between the two countries and bring practical benefits to the two peoples, the two sides should continue to work together and enhance fruitful cooperation, focusing on the top priorities.
