La Jornada – UAM begins hearing for Rector’s appointment to Coagemalpa Unit

As part of the new university rector appointment procedure for the Coagemalpa unit of the Autonomous University of the Capital (UAM), the board of directors of this educational institution has begun the process of listening to the community’s opinion regarding the three candidates proposed by the University President, General Eduardo Peñalosa.

The shortlist consists of Octavio Mercado González, who is an MA in Creativity for Design and Art History, who also holds a PhD in this field – and is in the pipeline -. He is a full time associate “D” at UAM Cuajimalpa and the current director of the Department of Communication and Design Sciences in this unit.

He has been the chair of the Department of Design Theory and Operations in the Department of Communication Sciences and the Design Unit of Cagmalpa, served as a faculty representative to the Council of the Department of Communication and Design Sciences, and was a member of the Academic Committee for teaching the Department of Design Theory and Operations on the same campus, among other functions.

Aureola Quiñónez Salcido, holds a PhD at the Center for Economic Studies at El Colegio de México and a PhD in Public Finance from the University of Veracruzana, and is a full-time “C” professor in the Quimalpa Unit, a full member of the jury in the field of economic and administrative sciences and representative of the academic body of the Science Division Social and humanitarian on this campus in front of the Academic College.

He was a member of the Mobility Grants and Special Grants Committee, as well as an academic representative of the Institutional Studies Department of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Coagemalpa Unit on four committees and also participated as a member of the Committee on the Use and Application of Information and Communication Technologies in Innovative Teaching Practices.

Alfonso Mauricio Sales Cruz, MD and MSc in Chemical Engineering, is a C Research Professor in the Operations and Technology Department and Director of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Department at UAM-Cuajimalpa.

He was the Head of the Operations and Technology Department and Secretary of the Unit, and participated as a member of the Academic College, Academic Board, and Council of the Department of Natural Sciences and Engineering on campus. He was also a member of the Academic Board and the Council of the Department of Natural Sciences and Engineering and a member of the National System of Scholars (SNI) Level 1.

According to information from the Board of Directors, the counseling process – which began yesterday – will consist of receiving opinions on shortlisted members, through written communications and personal interviews, with academic and administrative staff, as well as students. This stage ends on May 11th.

After that, the Board will interview the members of the shortlist with the aim of gaining their views on the unit as well as their programs for its development. Once this collective body ends, it will proceed to appoint who will be the next president of the university, at the end of the term of Rodolfo René Suárez Molnár, next June.
