Julian Sands: Actor’s brother fears he’s gone forever as authorities ‘have found no evidence’ of his whereabouts

(CNN) – Julian Sands’ brother Nick Sands told a British newspaper that he knew “in his heart” that the actor was “gone,” as authorities in California continued to search for him.

Julian Sands was first reported missing in the Mount Baldy, California area on January 13.

Authorities are “about to enter the second full week of their search for missing hiker Julian Sands. Multiple ground and air search efforts have been conducted,” a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department press release said. “At this time, Mr. Sands has not been located and no evidence has been found of his current location.”

The other hiker, 75-year-old Jin Chung of Los Angeles, who was last seen Sunday, was found with “some weather-related injuries and a leg injury, but was able to walk with support,” the team said.

“Chong was transported to a local hospital for treatment,” the press release said. “No further information is available at this time.”

Authorities said they were continuing to search for Sands, 65, who is best known for his roles in “A Room with a View,” “The Killing Fields” and “Arachnophobia.”

“His disappearance hasn’t been announced yet, but I know in my heart that he’s gone,” Nick Sands said. “However, knowing the reality of sibling rivalry, it would be like him showing up to prove me wrong.”

Nick Sands also spoke about his brother’s love of hiking.

“When he was in Los Angeles, Mount Baldy was his favorite place, and he would go there as often as he could,” Sands said. “Julian liked to say, ‘I never take a vacation, but I do take a break from time to time.’ Well, now he takes a break in a place I really approve of.”

“Many hikers, both experienced and novice, underestimate the steep terrain, unpredictable weather and strong winds that occur in our mountainous areas,” officials warned in their statement, advising “hikers to avoid dangerous mountainous areas, such as Mount Baldy, at this time.”
