Netflix is under change. And one of the changes that gives the most to talk about is New plan with ads. Thanks to him we will be able to save a little in return for watching ads before, during and after every series and movie we show, in the lowest possible quality, within this platform. This new plan is already beginning to reach some countries. And as expected, it made it so problematic that if you had any of these devices, you wouldn’t be able to see the new plan with ads on your TV.
This new cheap plan from Netflix Yesterday arrived in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Japan, Korea and Brazil, and is scheduled to arrive in many other countries, including Spain, November 10 of this year. This plan costs € 5.49 and will allow us to access part of the catalog (not all) in 720p quality and you can also watch 5 minutes of ads for every hour of playback. These ads will also appear before and during the launch.
However, there are still a few days before this plan arrives in Spain, but we already know that its landing was fraught with problems. Which is that if we use devices to watch series and movies on TV, like with Chromecast or Apple TV, we won’t be able to reproduce that content.
Problems with Netflix, Chromecast, and Apple TV
As confirmed by users and Netflix itself, if we have a basic Chromecast, the kind that comes without Google TV (i.e. the one used for streaming from the smartphone), We will not be able to send content If we contract with this new plan. This is not due to Netflix limitations, but rather a compatibility issue with the new ad system and protocols used by this device.
But this Google device isn’t the only one not compatible with the new Netflix plan. If we have a PlayStation 3 or an Apple TV, We won’t be able to use the new plan with ads either To display content in applications on these devices. And it seems that the rush to launch this new plan means that they haven’t given themselves enough time to thoroughly test everything before launching it.
The solution that Netflix gives us on their support page is simple: Upgrade to another plan, or switch devices. According to Netflix, these issues will be resolved in the future by updating both the app and device firmware (except PS3) to make it compatible. However, for now, what we do know is that if we have these two devices, we will not be able to use the new plan with ads on it in any way. Not by cast, in the case of Chromecast devices without Google TV, nor from the official app in the case of enjoying Apple TV at home.
