Alexandre Paul Zaterka Pacheco has been elected, the new rector of ITESO for the term 2022-2026

This afternoon, the ITESO Board of Directors unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Alexander Paul Zaterka Pacheco, SJ, as President of this Study House for the period 2022 – 2026. The appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of Article 19.4 of the Statutes of ITESO which states that it is the responsibility of the University Board to appoint a President The new university, on the proposal of the Mexican province of the Society of Jesus, with the approval of ITESO, AC, and after consulting the University Council and the Jesuit team.

Alexander Paul Zaterka, SJ, is Doctor of Theology from the University of Innsbruck, Austria. Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University, USA. He graduated in Theology from Colegio Máximo de Cristo Rey, holds studies in Philosophy and Social Sciences from Instituto Libre de Filosofía y Ciencias, AC, and is Director of Agronomist from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM).

From 2011 to 2013 he was Associate Professor in charge of the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome. From 2005 to 2011 he held the position of Emeritus Professor and Director of the Department of Religious Sciences at the Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México. From 2004 to 2011 he was dean of Colegio Máximo de Cristo Rey. He was executive secretary of the Theological Committee of the Latin American Provincial Conference (CPAL) of the Society of Jesus, from 2006 to 2011.

From 2014 to 2020 he was Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Human Sciences at ITESO, a position he held until September of that year when he was appointed President of the Universidade Iberoamericana León.

Dr. Zaterka Pacheco, SJ, will assume chaplaincy on January 17, 2022, and will be the 15th rector of ITESO, replacing Dr. Luis Arriaga Valenzuela, SJ.
