Interfish in Vigo strives to improve longline sustainability

The headquarters of the Afundación de Vigo will host the Conference II Interfish-Spain on the 12th and 13th of April, under the theme ‘Sustainability in pelagic longline fisheries’, with speakers who will address the issue from different points of view: administrative, scientific and professional by more than twenty speakers. Among them are specialists from Spain, Portugal and the UK.

From Interfish they explained yesterday in a statement that “For fishing, sustainability is not a commitment or a temporary condition, it is an inherent part of itself, fishing must be economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.”

The conference, which will bring together experts from different countries and will be opened by Minister Rosa Quintana; Secretary of State for Fisheries Isabelle Artem. Her Portuguese counterpart, Teresa Coelho. Mayor Abel Caballero; Interfish President, Juan Carlos Martín Fraguero; It will begin with an analysis of the role of the departments, with the participation of representatives of Xunta, the Secretary General of Fisheries, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Ministry of the Sea of ​​Portugal.

On the first day, fisheries representatives will address their current situation and future challenges, with the participation of processing and marketing associations, and environmental bodies.

On April 13, it will be the turn of Food Sciences, Distribution and Specialists, with the participation of speakers from the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, Basque AZTI Foundation, Sea Plus Plus, Fedepesca, El Corte Inglés or Mercadona.

Organizations in the product line, with presence in the dairy and wine sectors and dissemination of sectoral and scientific knowledge, will also be involved.
