FIFA President, Swiss Gianni Infantino, today broke with the decision of the Brazil-Argentina classic, which was suspended on September 5 in Sao Paulo due to the dismissal of the health staff of the national government at the Corinthians Arena.
“What I have to say is that it is a pending issue in the FIFA Disciplinary Committee and that as president I cannot and should not interfere. The legal bodies are independent and make their decisions based on the rules,” Infantino apologized for the visit in Buenos Aires.
In a press conference given with the AFC President at Ezeiza, the FIFA President acknowledged that what happened in that match was “unacceptable” without giving clues as to whether the classic would resume or be resolved on the desks.
He answered this specific query: “It’s always good to decide on the field, but it’s not always possible because of calendars.”
He concluded, “It cannot happen that a match stops in this way. In the future we do not want to see such pictures because it is something that makes football bad. We will see what they decide.”
The match that Brazil and Argentina tied without goals in Sao Paulo in the South American qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was halted during the first half due to the disruption of health officials from the Brazilian government, who denounced four footballers from “Albiceleste”. Violation of federal regulations to enter the country in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic.
