ESCUINAPA._ South of Sinaloa will be one of the places where the Great Solar Eclipse of North America can be observed and residents should start preparing for this astronomical event that will occur on April 8, 2024, announced the doctor in astrophysics, Giannina Dal Mies Zavala.
The teacher of the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa said that this event will repeat until the year 2199.
“It will be important to invite all the inhabitants, to Nayarit, to bring them here, so that they know that they will see this spectacle, and that they can see something where the moon crosses the sun and that it will be a few minutes of complete darkness.
It’s a show the Culiacan won’t have, because the astronomical event is going to happen from Mazatlan down and they won’t be able to watch it in Nayarit either, it’s just going to be south of the state, the strip of complete darkness that’s going to also pass through the US and Canada.
The researcher pointed out that the last total solar eclipse that could be observed in this region was in June 1991, an event that led to the suspension of the study due to the fear that minors would suffer eye damage from its observation.
“The eclipse is not dangerous, there are ways to observe it, he can guide and train teachers to enjoy this show, and it is for everyone,” Angel (Martínez, of the Institute of Science and Technology Innovation in Esquinaba) told INCITE.
The so-called Great North American Solar Eclipse, which will begin in the South Pacific, will be Monday at 10:50 a.m. and complete by 12:00 p.m., which will allow observing the entire celestial vault, he said.
“You’d be lucky, it wouldn’t be noticed in Culiacan; and the south, south of the state, would be privileged with this event, it is absolutely harmless,” he said.
Six months ago, in October 2023, there will be an eclipse, but it will be partially observable, not completely, it will be before 11:00 a.m., and it will be a precursor to observation before the great total solar eclipse of April 2024, he predicted.
Although there are still almost two years left, it is important to prepare yourself with information about this phenomenon, to face myths and phobias, so that you can enjoy these events.
He noted that the event can attract tourists, people who come for observation, science and hobbyists, so it is an opportunity for everyone in the fields of entertainment, tourism and science.
Through the civic organization INCITE, which is managed by Angel Martinez in the municipality, this educational work can be carried out with the residents.
