IMSS patients protest in Lyon due to lack of medication, appointments and mistreatment

LEON, GUANAJATO — Beneficiaries of Mexico’s Social Security Institute protested to the IMSS delegation in Leon about lack of medication, medical appointments, and other problems with care.

About fifty members of the Association of Rights Owners and Retirees of the State of Guanajuato arrived from Irapuato and placed their banners in front of the offices of Delegate Marco Antonio Hernandez Carrillo.

The testimonies collected by this newspaper agreed that only the challengers would receive a response from the authorities.

We know the lack of doctors, but above all, the lack of ethics “, denounced Carmen Mendiola, delegate.

“Social Security, by itself, has done a poor service, since Medicare ended for the pandemic. We’ve had appointments for specialists or surgeries that have been rescheduled and rescheduled for years.”

He said that consultations with specialists, medication and quality care are urgently needed, particularly at UMAE 1 but also in other clinics in Irapuato.

We want the rep to see each case on a case by case basis, he’d be terrified of refusing services. We had to protect ourselves until the judge ordered them to come to us, and yet they are so ineffective that they did not come.

Protesters say they fear reprisals

Other members of the association said they feared reprisals for participating in the peaceful protest held every March 8 at this location or at IMSS headquarters in Mexico City.

Doctors tell us ‘Aren’t you very ill? You don’t have anything anymore’, when we just ask for what is,” said Daniel Oliva, who received care for his broken nose, which prevents him from breathing properly, when the association intervened.

Gabriel Espinosa, a patient with five hernias along the spine, who was refused surgery at the time and now suffers from chronic pain, agrees.

You have moved forward, and here we are, supporting our partners.”

While in 2019, Adela suffered a hip fracture, which was treated only until the association supported her in scheduling her appointments.

However, it still causes problems due to the initial lack of interest.
As for Angel Ramos, Carmen Mendiola’s support allowed him to process the pension he was entitled to after his hand injury, because he was terminated and not retired.
