IMSS joins its efforts at its three levels of medical care

The Mexican Social Security Institute Its efforts to restore its three levels of care nationally have combined routine medical consultations and procedures that have been postponed due to the pandemic COVID-19, such as preventive health care, disease detection and surgical services.

Between May 31 and June 6, the focus was on providing services according to the specialties with the greatest postponement of outpatient consultation and surgery at the second and third levels of care, as well as integrated preventive measures and family medicine consultations at the first level. All these actions were carried out in an unusual way for the normal operation of medical units.

Increasing demand for specialized advice

These medical activities were carried out within the framework of National plan to restore health services It was postponed due to the health emergency and there was participation from 19 Decentralized Administrative Operations Authority (OOAD) and 16 Highly specialized medical units (UMAE).

30,614 family medicine consultations, 7,309 specialist consultations, 6,281 arterial hypertension detected, 5,447 diabetes screenings5,355 mammograms, 2,989 clinical breast examinations, 1,600 cervical cancer screenings, 958 surgeries, in addition to liver transplants, eight kidneys and two corneas.

The highest demand for outpatient care was in Specialties Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Traumatology, Orthopedics, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, Psychiatry and Pediatrics.

Surgical care is also provided in the specialties of general surgery, pediatric surgery, hip and spine, and plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Among the procedures relevant to the strategy were vasectomy and tubal hyperplasia sessions held at the second level of care medical units in Oaxaca and Sinaloa, in the recent IMSS representation, 162 bilateral tubal obstruction (OTB) and 15 vasectomy were performed.

In the IMSS Aguascalientes promoted specialist consultations, general surgery, urology, traumatology and orthopedics, as well as surgical procedures for oncology, neurosurgery, fractures and orthopedics. In Nuevo Leon, the General Hospital of District 33 has performed four corneal transplants.

For the representation in Jalisco, a Family Medicine and Screening for Chronic Degenerative Diseases Day was held, as well as caring for patients deferred for trauma surgery and orthopedics with knee arthroplasty.

In the state of Western Mexico, 26 specialties of outpatient consultations have been activated in order to restore health services, as well as surgical activities in general, gynecological, traumatological and orthopedic surgery.

CMN La Raza General Hospital has transplanted five cornea patients to add 36 so far this year, in addition to another bone marrow transplant.
