Humanities Conference: Current Affairs of Classical and Contested Knowledge Confronting the Digital Society | Congress

Technological revolution, new models of communication and knowledge; A globalized world Another experience of time and space: the field of knowledge of the humanities is today crossed by a frenzy in which cognitive modernization seems necessary. However, some old questions remain open and the National University of San Martin (UNSAM) seeks to revive them and bring them into the drifts of contemporary thought.

Classic truth and knowledge in conflict facing the digital societyis the suggestive title of the Second International Conference on the Humanities organized by the Humanities Research Laboratory (LICH) of the Faculty of Humanities (EH) at UNSAM and CONICET.

The event will take place from November 9-11 at the Miguelete Campus of the House of Studies in the north of Buenos Aires Province. Nearly a thousand presentations, multiple round tables and panel discussions are planned to put “who we are and who we want to be in this digitally envisioned future,” according to Silvia Greenberg, LICH director.

The first edition of the conference entitled The humanities between the past and the future, which was held in 2019 and succeeded in attending and exchanging positions. “It was wonderful; a very enriching experience. Since it was the first time we had done it, we didn’t know if what we imagined would be well received,” recalls the Doctor in Education.

The positive balance of the former implanted the idea of scheduling the meeting twice a year. During the pandemic, organizers refused to give it a digital format, arguing that “physical confrontation, being and feeling body-to-body” are essential to the activity.

This second call will be opened by a preliminary panel that includes physicist Diego Hurtado, political scientist Mario Piccini, sociologist Elizabeth Gillen and expert in Spanish-American studies and popular culture Gloria Chicote.

“Thinking about what is classic today means going back to the questions with which philosophy and history were born and knowing how recent their thinking is in the present. The idea of contested knowledge is meant to suggest that the future should not be written. Sometimes miserable opinions win and our will is to question that assumption,” Greenberg explained. .

Although the list of participants has not yet been confirmed, LICH has already confirmed the presence of Nuccio Ordine, the famous Italian essayist and Renaissance expert, who is considered an important figure on the international cultural scene.

The conference seeks to promote an emotional and sensory experience in the field of the humanities, where artistic languages intertwine with academic knowledge. Imprint will embed musical and visual performances.

Artist Alejandra Fenochio will show part of her work on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 9, while Tucuman instrumentalist and composer Manu Sija will conclude on Friday the 11th with a concert starting on the 18th.

All activities will be open to the public and free of charge and will be proposed as an invitation to take on the challenges of the humanities from “an experience that puts the body on stage, through emotional thinking,” according to the institute’s director. LICH.
