March 18, 2021, 3:15 PMManagua, March 18 (Prinsa Latina) About 182,000 cubic meters of sewage is being disinfected every day before being discharged into Lake Managua in this capital, said Edwin Bareda, CEO of Nicaragua’s Sanitary Ducts and Sewers Corporation.
It’s a very important amount of water, and if it weren’t for this plant, we would pour straight into the lake (also known as Xolotlán), ”Barida added.
In the 12 years of operation of this facility, the immense amount of pollutants that have stopped polluting the lake area has been deduced, qualified by the landscape value it contributes to the capital of Nicaragua.
Barreda said the German banking bank that helped finance the project is currently sharing it internationally as an example of wastewater treatment.
He said that in the environmental policy applied to the lake district, the spotlight was on the withdrawal of companies based on the lake’s shores that have been inundated with pollutants such as mercury and lead.
The director said that the Japan International Cooperation Agency is studying the possibility of financing a project to make water from Lake Managua drinkable.
