Guterres calls for a ceasefire and more humanitarian support for Gaza

Regarding the Ninth Conference on Promoting Effective Partnerships for Better Assistance, which will be held in this capital, the senior diplomat called for expanding support for the long-term development of the sector as well as life recovery and reconstruction.

“In the midst of darkness, the humanitarian community’s commitment to helping and supporting people is a ray of light,” the UN Secretary-General said.

In particular, Guterres welcomed the importance of the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which is the backbone of UN efforts in Gaza, and which relies on strong partnerships to do its work.

The diplomat thanked the government of Kuwait, the International Organization of Islamic Charitable Societies and their strategic partners for their effective promotion and support for humanitarian aid.

He added: “I know that the people of Gaza can count on your support and partnership, and on the support of governments, charities and humanitarian agencies across the region.”

The head of the organization particularly welcomed the efforts of the Emir of Kuwait, Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, during his meeting with the President of the State.

Guterres thanked Kuwait for its constructive and consistent role in promoting dialogue in the region and its contribution to humanitarian efforts, including with regard to the situation in Gaza, according to a press statement issued by his spokesman.
