Haiti beat Martinique 1-2 on Sunday in the last game of both teams in Group B Gold Cup 2021 That allowed him to take the Caribbean duel.
Haiti, with its best offensive football, moved up the scoreboard after just three minutes – Carnegie Antoine scored 0-1.
In the 53rd minute, Martinique tied with Kevin Fortune, who entered the first half to replace the injured Emmanuel Riviere (about 17 minutes).
Fortune made history by scoring the 1,000th goal in Gold Cup history.
But then came Martinique’s violent match that cost Sebastian Krettenauer a red card in the 59th minute, allowing Haiti to capitalize on their numerical advantage to score with Ricardo Ade 1-2 in 61.
From that moment on, Martinique was more aggressive which cost Berner Patrick a second red card, in the 78th minute.
Haiti with an advantage on the scoreboard didn’t want to risk more and despite having several scoring opportunities, decided to let the minutes pass to finish the match and achieve a victory of honor before exiting the elimination tournament, as Martinique did.
The two teams, who met for the first time in a Gold Cup match, suffered a loss to the United States and Canada, which qualified for the quarter-finals.
