From 300 to 700 euros per month

One of the first steps for any immigrant who has recently arrived in Spain and wants to become legal is registration, which is nothing more than registering in the municipal registry of the place where he or she will reside. But not everything is so simple, and it is not achieved quickly, because not all homes or their owners allow it. This is where illegal actions are born: charging fees for them.

As we told you, registration is the process that allows you to register all residents who live or habitually reside in a Spanish municipality. The municipal registry is an administrative document containing the data of these neighbors which they will need for further procedures, such as obtaining a foreign ID card and others.

But like everything that is difficult, some take economic guarantees from this situation, as the government recently denounced this week note The city of Almeria in the autonomous region of Andalusia in southern Spain.

Registration fees in Spain

On this occasion, the National Police arrested and charged a man who was committed to illegally registering foreigners on a property he owned Between 300 and 700 euros per person.

In the 136 square meter property, there were 173 registered people seeking to regularize their status in Spain. Three other people who were responsible for the arrest of foreigners, most of them of Moroccan and Senegalese origin, were also arrested in the state of Almeria.

But this illegal situation is more common than you might imagine, and it occurs in many autonomous communities, such as the Canary Islands, where hundreds of Cubans arrive every year, and sometimes, we have heard of complaints, and accusations, by the Spaniards, for new arrivals to register.

Foreigners pay this money, as a registration certificate is required in all subsequent procedures carried out on Spanish territory. But if they are caught, as in the case described above, they may face revocation of their permits, as well as administrative penalties.
