Flooding from Storm Babbitt may continue in the UK for several days

London, October 23 (EFE).- The British Environment Agency (EA) warned on Monday that flooding caused by Storm Babette in the United Kingdom, which claimed four lives, may continue for several days, and does not rule it out. There will likely be more due to heavy rains in some areas of the country.

Across England, 116 flood warnings remain in force, including in the East Midlands and along the River Severn.

So far, four people have died in floods in Shropshire and Derbyshire and two in Scotland.

The Environment Agency indicated the possibility of further flooding due to heavy rain until Wednesday in some areas of England, including around the River Severn, and indicated that new warnings would be issued.

“The River Severn will continue to flood until Wednesday, and further river flooding is likely in parts of England due to heavy rainfall,” the agency said.

So far, 1,250 properties have been flooded in England.

Residents of more than 500 homes in Nottinghamshire (central England) were evacuated yesterday and two alerts were activated due to the risk of flooding of the River Idle as it passes through the English cities of Retford and West Retford.

In Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, some rivers have exceeded their maximum historical levels, which would have been reached in 2007, in recent days.
