4x100m Relay Swim Gives U.S. Its First Gold of Paris 2024, Caleb Dressel Its Eighth Medal
The United States maintained its coveted title in Paris by winning gold in the 4x100m relay, beating rivals Australia and Italy, who won silver and bronze, respectively.
The team of Caleb Dressel, Chris Guiliano, Jack Alexie and Hunter Armstrong finished in 3:09.28 to retain the gold medal the United States won at the Tokyo Olympics.
Behind them were the Australians and Italians, who held positions in the AA competition full of comebacks, especially for second and third place, with the Americans dominating almost the entire test.
With the exception of the first round, in which China led, the Americans took first place from the first relay and did not give up the rest of the competition; for their part, the Italians moved up to second place, leaving behind the Asians and the Hungarians, but the Australians rose up in the last relay and took second place.
This is the first gold medal won by the United States so far in Paris, and for Caeleb Dressel it is his eighth gold medal overall, tying sprinter Usain Bolt and jumper Ray Ewry.
