As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo will chair the opening session of the event together with the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, Javier Medina, and the Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund, Susana Sottoli.
Also attending will be the Ambassador of Honduras to the Special Mission on Women and Chair of the 57th Session of the United Nations Commission on Population and Development, Noemi Espinosa, and the Minister of Development Planning of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Sergio Kosicanqui.
The objective of the meeting is to assess the challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Montevideo Consensus, the most important intergovernmental agreement in the region on population and development, and the Programme of Action approved thirty years ago at the International Conference on the subject reached in 2008. The meeting is expected to be attended by senior representatives from governments, regional and international institutions and the private sector, who will analyse progress and obstacles related to the effective enjoyment of the rights of persons with disabilities within the framework of the population and development agenda.
