Ethiopia hosts a meeting to discuss a peaceful solution in Sudan

ADDIS ABABA, June 15 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia, Djibouti, South Sudan and Kenya will soon meet here to discuss a peaceful solution to the conflict in Sudan, the spokesperson for the local foreign ministry, Meles Alem, reported today.

Alem explained in his regular bi-weekly press conference that those countries, as members of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) along with Eritrea, Somalia and Uganda, agreed to resolve the clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces.

On this issue, he made it clear that it corresponds to an agreement adopted during the 14th regular session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of IGAD, which was held last Monday in Djibouti.

She added that, taking into account the directives that were established at that meeting, the leaders of the four countries will meet in Addis Ababa within 10 days to explore mechanisms for addressing the conflict in Sudan.

He emphasized that it is part of Ethiopia’s continued commitment to peace in Khartoum.

The final statement of the IGAD also stated that it would establish cooperation with other actors involved in the search for peace, such as the African Union, the United Nations, the League of Arab States and the European Union, as well as the United States and Saudi Arabia.

The clashes broke out in Sudan on April 15 due to the contradictions in the midst of the process of integration of the Revolutionary Front led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, Vice President of the Sovereign Transitional Council, within the armed forces; And the army commander and head of the Science and Technology Committee, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
