“Eternal” contract for coach Alain Pulido at Sporting KC

Sporting Kansas City And Peter Vermes He agreed to a contract extension, which is now in effect through the end of the 2028 MLS season.

Vermes is the athletic director and head coach of SKC, with his previous contract expiring at the end of the 2023 MLS season. He’s the longest-serving coach in the league: Vermes managed Kansas City during the 2009 season and is about to start his 15th season, making him one of the longest-serving coaches of his career.

“Peter is a superior strategic thinker who loves to win and hates to lose,” said Mike Ellig, co-owner and CEO of Sporting Kansas City. “He has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the owner group’s goal of elevating Sporting KC to be a perennial contender in an increasingly difficult league.”

Vermes has led Kansas City as Technical Secretary since 2006, adding coaching duties in August 2009. He spent the last three years of his playing career with Kansas City (2000-2002), winning the MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield in 2000. Additionally he added 67 games with the USA national team.

With Vermes as coach, SKC won the MLS Cup (2013) and three editions of the US Open Cup (2012, 2015, 2017). The team has qualified for the MLS playoffs in 10 of the last 12 years.

Peter Vermes is the fourth-best coach in the American League, with 183 wins in regular season games. He has been the coach for more than half of the matches played by SKC in its history from 1996 onwards.
