Authorities said at least eight migrants were found dead in the Rio Grande (or Rio Grande) after dozens tried to cross from Mexico and reach Texas near Eagle Pass.
Officials from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Mexico broke the news as they dealt with a large group of people crossing the river. Heavy rains in recent days have caused particularly fast currents.
Six bodies were collected on the American side; In Mexico, two, according to a CBP statement.
Separately, US teams rescued 37 more people from the river and detained 16 others, while Mexican authorities detained 39 migrants.
CBP said officials on both sides of the border were continuing to search for any potential victims.
CBP did not indicate which country or countries the immigrants were from, nor did it provide any additional information about rescue or search.

The Del Rio sector of the Border Patrol, which includes Eagle Pass, has become the busiest passage for illegal crossings: immigrant agents in the sector arrested nearly 50,000 times in July. In second place is the Rio Grande Valley with about 35,000 inhabitants.
The region attracts immigrants from dozens of countries, many with families with young children. Approximately 6 out of 10 arrests in Strip del Rio were immigrants from Venezuela, Cuba or Nicaragua.
The strip, which runs 395 kilometers along the Rio Grande, was extremely dangerous because currents can be deceptively fast and change abruptly.
In a press release last month, CBP said it discovered the bodies of more than 200 migrants in the strip from October through July.
