Dolly Parton, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan, Belinda Carlisle and Debbie Harry reunite for new song titled It will be you. The track, which will be released on January 20, is the work of famed songwriter Diane Warren.
will be you, It constitutes the first collaboration between the five pop legends, recorded for the upcoming film titled 80’s for the Bradys. The comedy tells the story of four women in their 80s — played by Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field — who take a road trip to watch NFL player Tom Brady play his last Super Bowl game.
Despite the film’s premise, the singers were not chosen based on their age. “Since it was 80 in the title I had a crazy idea,” Warren said in a statement. “Why not sing it to some of the most famous singers of the ’80s, who are still great and always will be.”
“I wanted to write a song that celebrates the deep friendship of these (characters),” the composer explained. Everyone I contacted said yes and were as excited as I was. I am honored to have Dolly Parton, Belinda
Carlyle, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan and Debbie Harry in this song. You will be that song you want to sing with all your good friends.”
Carlyle announced the news on Instagram with the caption, “Yassssssssss!” “What an honor to sing with Dolly Parton, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan and Debbie Harry,” he wrote. “It was hard to keep that secret.”
All five singers have been active in recent years: Carlisle will be touring the UK in February, while Harry Blondy’s band released a long-running compilation, Against the Odds 1974-1982, this past August. Lauper’s latest album was wrapping, Published in 2016; Estefan released a Christmas album, Stephen’s birthdaylast year.
Barton published a greatest hits collection entitled Diamonds and rhinestones In November and his Christmas musical, Dolly Parton Christmas Carol Smoky Mountain Christmas, It ends its season at the Southbank Centre, London, on January 8.
Warren has written many hit songs over the course of his three-decade career, including Rhythm of the Night for DeBarge, Cher if I could turn back time s I don’t want to miss anything by Aerosmith.
