ATHENS, June 20 (Reuters) – French fashion house Dior returned its shows to the public on Thursday with a fireworks display from the cruise collection Athens 2022 at the Panathenaic Stadium, the site of the first modern Olympic Games.

Seen by celebrities such as movie star Catherine Deneuve, model Cara Delevingne, Queens Gambit actress Anya Taylor Joy and Greek President Katrina Sakellaropoulou, the collection featured antiquity-inspired designs and traditional Greek attire.

Among the Greek craftsmen whose work appeared in the collection were a tailor and embroiderer from Argos in the Peloponnese, a silk factory in the northeastern city of Soufli, and a hat fisherman from the port of Piraeus.

“I am very interested in crafts,” Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of Dior, told AFP.

“Every country has different sides to fashion,” he said.

Cruise groups are among the usual spring/summer and fall/winter groups – French families often visit other countries to set off.

Dior said the event in Athens “(combines) the power of heritage and contemporary innovation.”

The fashion house said the byblos robe, a traditional robe worn by women in ancient Greece, was a “main inspiration” for the show’s costume.

The collection, mostly in black, white, grey, gold, and blue, featured tracksuits and pieces inspired by Marlene Dietrich’s jackets and pants.

The show took place 70 years after the famous Dior photo was taken on the Acropolis.

“We are very proud to be here,” Corey said.

“When I got to Dior, I found the file and said, ‘One day it would be great to make this trip to Greece again.'” In a way, it’s a memory.

In addition to the Acropolis, Greek officials permitted depictions of Dior in the Odeon of Herod Atticus, the Agora of Athens, the Temple of Poseidon at Sounio, and the Temple of Zeus at Nemea.

Corey said bringing the crowd back was a welcome feeling. The last spectator program, a smaller event, was in September.

“We’ve worked a lot with videos and movies, but it’s totally different to have an audience at our modeling show. It’s like a prom,” he said.

“Guests are part of the show with us.”
