Cuban dancer Zeldy Crespo today won the UK National Dance Award 2023 in the category of Outstanding Female Performance in the Modern Dance category, for her participation in the show 100% Cuban.
The Acosta Danza Group, managed by Carlos Acosta, presents this job in the European country in the first months of 2022, in which Crespo is the leading figure.
For the current rating, shows and offers listed between January 1 and December 31, 2022 are taken into account.
In 2021, Acosta Danza was nominated for and won Best Independent Company, at the 21st edition of that country’s National Dance Awards, an event organized by the UK Critics’ Circle Dance Department.
Born in the western province of Pinar del Rio, Crespo began her dance studies in 2001 at the Raul Sánchez García Vocational School in her hometown.
Then, in 2003, she entered the National School of Musical Performances, where she continued her dance studies, graduating in 2006 as a dancer in musicals.
He started his career in the company directed by Maestro Santiago Alfonso, a team with which he participated in jazz plays, Oba Yoro, María Antonia, among others.
She reached the senior level as a dancer, appearing on stages in Spain, France, Portugal and Russia.
She participated as a dancer in various events, such as the International Habano Festivals that are held every year in Havana, and festivals of musical performances in important competitions.
In 2014 he became part of the Cuban Television Ballet, and has toured internationally accompanying the orchestras in countries such as Switzerland and Germany.
Likewise, he participated in nationally televised performances and in music videos of important figures in Cuban and Latin American music.
This award is given in recognition of the work of Cuban artists for their continued involvement in the British scene, a fact that cements Acosta Danza as one of the main ambassadors of Cuban culture on the international stage.
