In response to a request by TICO President Carlos Alvarado, Malmerca said that Cuba could provide vaccines against Covid-19, defending the commitment to leave no one behind, so as to think about how to better contribute to the Fifth Forum of Latin American Countries. And the Caribbean on sustainable development, which today launched three days of courses in this capital.

The Cuban minister, who ratified that Latin America and the Caribbean can count on Cuba, stressed that his country will continue to call for pluralism, search for concerted solutions and solidarity cooperation to meet development challenges and strengthen alliances with countries in the region. . and the international community.

He stressed that only in this way will we be able to achieve the change of age called for in the recent report so that Latin America and the Caribbean becomes the region to which we aspire.

He noted that Cuba renews its deep commitment to achieving the sustainable development goals, despite the complex scenario facing his country.

He stressed: “For more than 60 years, we have been the target of an economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States government, which constitutes the most complex, prolonged and inhumane set of unilateral coercive measures applied against any country.”

Noting that the hostile policy of the United States government against Cuba has intensified over time, and in recent years, in an unprecedented manner, Malmerca denounced the impact of these unilateral coercive measures on Cuba’s efforts to stop the epidemic, impeding our access to health supplies and equipment.

Nevertheless, he praised the Cuban state, as it continues to implement its national plan for economic and social development until 2030, without leaving anyone behind.

For the rest, he confirmed that more than 89 percent of the population undergoing immunization in Cuba has already been vaccinated and the corresponding booster doses are being applied, with 100 percent Cuban vaccines.

The Cuban Minister thanked and dedicated special appreciation on behalf of the Cuban government and people to the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Barcena, for her tireless and dedicated efforts to sustainable development in the region in the past 14 years at the helm of the regional bloc.

Some 750 delegates from 33 member countries of the regional bloc confirmed their participation in this fifth forum, which was organized by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Coropesi in the capital, with face to face and virtual formats.
