Cuban Deputy Minister for Foreign Relations, Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo, and Permanent Under-Secretary to the UK chancellery, Philip Barton, held a virtual meeting on Thursday, where they affirmed the will to strengthen bilateral relations.

The Cuban official stated on the social networking site Twitter that during the exchange, they endorsed their common interest in advancing the negotiations of the draft bilateral agreement for political dialogue and cooperation.

Rodriguez Camejo said this agreement will facilitate high-level exchanges and a solid and systematic political dialogue between the two countries.

Multilateral issues such as climate change and human rights were also addressed.

The Cuban diplomat thanked the United Kingdom for its support for the United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for an end to the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States Government against Cuba.

For his part, Philip Barton, in the same social network, expressed his happiness to meet the Deputy Minister, and described the exchange as “widespread, which covered the breadth of the relationship between the United Kingdom and Cuba.”
