The Pan American Gymnastics Championships in Medellin ended up showing off for the United States, taking places of honor in a competition in which the locals were also champions in the three days that took place.

Dylan Jimenez, Andrés Felipe Martinez and Gina Escobar of Antioquia ended up being the most prominent members of the national delegation, which finished near the podium.

Coach Leonardo González, head of the men’s team, was pleased with Colombia’s performance in the all-round classification with Andrés Felipe Martinez, who finished fourth, and in the team event in which he also finished in that position.

In addition, Dylan Jimenez gave the country a bronze medal in the parallel event, trailing Yul Muldaur and Shane Wiskus, of the United States, who won gold and silver, respectively.

Dylan, who won the silver medal at the World Cup in Varna, Bulgaria, in May 2022, also on the parallel beam, is still resolute on his way in search of qualification for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

Dylan commented, “I feel very happy with the results, we worked hard because we wanted to put on a good performance, more than we were at home, something special because the support from the crowd was amazing.”

Gina Escobar, a Colombia World Cup gymnast who has just recovered from an injury that kept her out of competition for three years, is also calm about what she’s done.

“I feel happy for the team’s work, to qualify for the World Cup and at home, it was a magical thing,” said Gina.

They are still focused

The Colombian women’s and men’s teams will continue to focus in Medellin, as they prepare for the Central American Games to be held in El Salvador. This tournament will also serve as preparations and goal blanks for the World Cup in Belgium, where the country will have two players and the men’s team represented.
