the United kingdom Meteorologists warned Thursday that it could exceed 40 degrees Celsius in summer despite the fact that the increase in global temperature is limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
This limit corresponds to the more ambitious goal set by the Paris Agreement to limit global warming compared to the pre-industrial era, which the British presidency of COP 26, due to be held in Glasgow in November, hopes to keep “alive”. According to many scientists, this goal is already out of reach.

Marking the publication of the UK Climate Report 2020, on Thursday, Royal Meteorological Society Director-General Liz Bentley confirmed that the planet is already experiencing extreme heat spells as temperatures rise from 1.1 to 1.1. 1.2 degrees Celsius.
“If we add 0.3 degrees Celsius, these heat waves will ‘be more and more intense, and obviously we will see 40 degrees Celsius in the UK, even though we have never known these temperatures before,'” he said. 38.7°C reached in Cambridge on 25 July 2019.

“If global warming reaches 1.5 degrees Celsius, it won’t be something we see once or twice,” he added, but “something we’ll see on a regular basis.” Mike Kendon, author of the report, told the BBC that it was “reasonable” for the UK to reach 40 degrees Celsius in summer, and emphasized that climate change was already evident on British soil, as in the rest of the world.
