China insisted on Tuesday that all parties concerned with the situation in Ukraine should remain calm, reduce tensions and seek a way out through dialogue. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered that only in this way can a political solution to this issue be reached.
During a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China is concerned about the development of the situation in Ukraine, but its position on this issue is consistent.
Clearly referring to Russia’s motives, Wang said that any country’s legitimate security concerns should be respected and adhered to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.
He also stated that the evolution of the Ukraine issue so far is closely related to the delay in the effective implementation of the new Minsk agreement. Therefore, China will continue to communicate with all parties concerned according to the merits of the matter, he concluded.
“China once again calls on all parties to exercise restraint, recognize the importance of implementing the principle of indivisible security, calm the situation and resolve differences through dialogue and negotiations,” the senior Chinese official said. (agency summary)
