Chile will promote vaccination against Covid-19 and influenza

According to the Undersecretary of Health, Cristobal Cuadrado, starting next month, residents will have the option to be vaccinated against influenza and SARS-CoV-2 at the same time.

“We prepare for the respiratory emergency that we face in the winter every year,” Cuadrado said.

With this goal, opportunities for people to attend immunizations will be expanded and communication campaigns about the importance of immunization will be strengthened.

So far, only 24.73 percent of the target population have gone to health centers to be vaccinated with bivalent, which protects against the original strain of SARS-CoV-2 and the Omicron variant.

The antigen is applied to people over the age of 50, as well as health workers, immunosuppressed or chronically ill patients, and personnel performing essential functions for the direct care of citizens, among other groups.

The authorities linked the lack of interest in immunization with citizens’ perception of low risk related to the epidemic.

The day before, 17 deaths and 2,347 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Chile, an increase of 26.7 percent in the number of infections over the past week.
