Boris Johnson promises $232m boost for UK Olympic sports

Great Britain exits the Olympics strongly. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will increase the country’s Olympic and Paralympic budget by £232 million (€272 million) in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. After returning from Tokyo with 65 medals, the British Prime Minister said at a press conference.

New funds will be used to train Great Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes.The additional support for British Olympic Sport represents a 43% increase in funding received for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“The athletes hope to inspire many to take up sport for the first time while promoting Britain’s image abroad,” said UK Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston.

The UK is set to host the Commonwealth Games next year, which will be held in Birmingham. To implement this event, approximately £778 million (€914 million) has been invested in the West Midlands region.Making it the country’s biggest sporting event since the 2012 London Olympics.

In fact, the London 2012 Games meant an expenditure of £10.792 million (€17.572 million) for the country. Until Tokyo 2020, it was the most expensive Olympic Games in history.
