peace-. The Commander-in-Chief of the Bolivian Police, Alvaro Alvarez, confirmed today that 147 people died during the New Year holiday, while that armed force witnessed a total of 1,500 traffic accidents.
He explained in press statements that “in traffic incidents, we witnessed a significant increase in assistance allocations, accidents, breakdowns, violations, and deaths of people (…)” for various reasons.
The general added that for surveillance operations, 15,780 soldiers have been mobilized throughout the national territory, which means an increase of 79 percent compared to the end of 2022.
“Police personnel were deployed in all areas – Alvarez described – roads, capitals, intermediate cities and borders, with the aim of giving certainty and a sense of security to all Bolivians who were celebrating the end-of-year celebrations.”
According to the police chief, the force’s broad control over the streets helped identify a larger number of perpetrators.
As for the provinces with the highest number of recorded accidents, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, La Paz, Potosi, Chuquisaca and Oruro are included.
