“With YPFB fertilizer, crops can yield almost twice as much as they would without using urea. This situation will contribute to the food security of the Bolivian people,” the businessman said.
The CEO made this statement in Santa Cruz in connection with the action called “Field Day”, which was carried out with the aim of explaining the benefits of fertilizers and methods of use to producers and marketing companies.
“Sample YPFB trial plots were carried out in crops of corn, sugarcane, sorghum, sunflowers and pastures, at the Fundacruz fairgrounds, located on the highway between the municipalities of Warnes and Montero,” explained the Director of Derivative Products and Manufacturing of YPFB, Gabriela Delgadillo.
The field day served as a prelude to the next 19th edition of the Vidas 2023 Agricultural Technology Fair.
During the current year, the high country has reduced fertilizer imports to a minimum and has been able to ensure that the Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruz ammonia and urea plant covers 99 percent of Bolivian farmers’ consumption.
This scenario positioned YPFB as a major supplier to the country.
Santa Cruz Department is known as the engine of the Bolivian economy and is the main food producer in the Plurinational State.
It is estimated that there are three million hectares planted with soybeans, sorghum, corn, sugarcane, sunflowers, wheat and other crops that require the use of fertilizers in this region.
YPFB promotes the proper use of urea in different crops with technical application recommendations, according to the needs of Bolivian farmers.
The direct purchase of this fertilizer is carried out at YPFB sales points or through the technical team of the management of derivative and synthetic products of that company.
The website of the state oil company publishes the prices of this product every month.
Bolivia is preparing to increase urea production to 620,000 tons annually to achieve an income of more than $420 million in 2025, according to Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy Franklin Molina.
The ammonia and urea plant installed in Polo Polo, Cochabamba, after scheduled maintenance, increased its production capacity from 360,000 tons to more than 380,000 tons.
Molina said that this load is currently being marketed on the national territory and in foreign markets.
