BBC license fee ‘no longer fit for purpose’, experts say
Activists said the disclosure is particularly alarming given that the company is ready to start sending law enforcement officers to demand that retirees pay their television license fees. Like the previous logo, the new logo features three distinct blocks containing the BBC letters.
The specially designed font, BBC Reith, is named after the BBC’s founder, John Reith, and the blocks are slightly different from each other, but the casual observer will find them difficult to distinguish.
The logo was revealed on the BBC Select website in February, and it is understood that the BBC plans to begin showing it on television starting in the fall.
Rebecca Ryan is the director of Defund the BBC, which campaigns to decriminalize not paying £159 a year for a television license.

A completely unnecessary exercise to rearrange the sunbeds on the Titanic
She told Express.co.uk: “It is really disappointing to see that in the same week the BBC announced it would start sending law enforcement officers into the homes of seniors in Britain, it turned out that the company was wasting huge amounts of payers’ money. taxes in what they claim is a “big upgrade”.
“In fact, the opposite is true. We can see from the new logo, which looks surprisingly familiar, that this was a completely unnecessary exercise in rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
“Meanwhile, grandparents and great-grandfathers across the country are being harassed at their doorstep.”

Ryan added: “It is this kind of extravagance from the BBC, disregarding those who are forced to fund it, that is causing license payers to shut down en masse, choosing instead to watch entertainment providers like Netflix. I don’t need a TV license. Who can blame them? «
Robert Lowe, a former MEP for the Brexit Party and a longtime critic of the company, added: “It shows that the state-sponsored monopoly does not respect taxpayers’ money.
Surprised Tim Davey allowed such waste.

The BBC will not change from within.
“Conservatives should work to decriminalize licensing fees now and turn them into a subscription service.”
Prior to last August, broadcast TV licenses were free to all people over the age of 75.
However, only those over this age and those receiving retirement credit are now exempt from payment.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the BBC has agreed a ‘grace period’ during which no payment is required, but that expires this month.
A BBC statement said: “We are very grateful for the high level of support that customers over the age of 75 have shown towards the license fee.
As we are now in a situation where families over 75 are aligned with the general population, the extended transition period we have implemented due to COVID-19 will end on July 31, 2021.
“According to the general policy, anyone who watches or records live TV programs on any channel, or downloads or watches BBC programs on BBC iPlayer must have a valid TV license.”

Each affected person can now expect a letter explaining the changes in more detail.
Referring to Ms Ryan’s comments, a BBC spokesperson said: “The BBC has not ‘claimed’ anything. This is the language other people use.
Like we said, we simply use our own source, which we own the copyright to, to sort the blocks when we update BBC content or products.
“It would be wrong to suggest that the costs of designing the blocks were significant.”
